How Our Service Works

Animal Companions provides care for your pet loved ones in the environment in which they feel the most safe and comfortable - their own home!

When you contact Animal Companions, a staff member gladly answers any questions you may have and arranges for a Petsitter to come to your home for a FREE Initial Visit.

The Initial Visit

Whenever possible, we include a second Pet Sitter in the Initial Visit. Disaster preparation is one of the many important focuses of our business: The secondary Pet Sitter takes over whenever the primary caregiver is not available (illness, emergency, or the like). This way, you get to meet and interview each person that will have access to your home and be trusted with the well-being of your pets.

During this visit, you decide how often you want your sitter to visit each day and what services you want performed. Fees are based on the number of visits per day and the difficulty/time involved in any additional services requested.

Preparations

• Pet should have a collar with current tags.
• Keep plenty of supplies on hand (bowls, cleaning supplies, several rolls of paper towels, food, leashes, litter, medications, treats, and the like), in one area and in plain sight.
• Medications should be clearly labeled.
• Be sure your instructions are clear and comprehensive.
• Leave the pet with an item that has your comforting scent, such as a well-worn T-shirt.
• If you have multiple pets, please leave a labeled photo of each.
• Keep updated emergency information (to reach you, a trusted friend, or your vet) on hand in plain sight.
• Please contact us to update changes in pet routine.

Recommendations

• We recommend 1-3 daily visits to break up your pet's day.
• Dogs benefit most from a minimum of two visits per day.
• Cats benefit most from a minimum of one visit per day.
• For advice on other pets, please contact us.
• Please schedule the Initial Visit when the Pet Sitter may best observe your pet's routine. For example, if your pet requires medications, please schedule the Initial Visit during the time which these are normally administered.

• If you are going on a vacation or business trip, please request that Animal Companions automatically continue services until you contact us to let us know you have returned. This way your sitter knows that you are safe and your pets are being taken care of by you, and you have the peace of mind that your pets will be looked after in the event of an unscheduled delay or emergency.
