I am an experienced Veterinary Technician, Certified Veterinary Paramedic, and Dog Trainer. From 2003-2007, my husband and I volunteered for Houston Area Doberman Rescue (HADR), serving as a foster home.
I was a Veterinary Technician for 9 years: 2 years at PetVet and 7 years at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (GCVS). During this time I worked mostly with dogs and cats, but occasionally assisted with handling ferrets, parrots, rabbits, iguanas and snakes.
While working toward my Veterinary Paramedic certification I volunteered in the avian section at the Houston Zoo, assisted at Citizens for Animal Protection (CAPS), and worked with horses at the Stevens and Pruitt Ranch. While at CAPS I adopted Nivek (pictured at left), who was one of the loves of my life.
As a professional Dog Trainer, I trained boarding dogs and assisted teaching basic Obedience classes. I also trained my own dog, Holly, and titled her in Obedience (pictured above-right). I have trained my own dogs in Obedience, Agility, and Tracking. My experience includes handling dogs that are Schutzhund trained.
Throughout my life I have had various pets: parakeets, cockatiels, finches, turtles, hamsters, rats, hermit crabs, goldfish, cichlid tropical fish, guppies, anole lizards, frogs (raised from tadpoles), a horse, and many cats and dogs (...and a husband). One of my favorite things about pet sitting is that it allows me to add even more pets to my family.
I am a PSI Accredited Pet Sitting Technician. Training for this certification included subjects such as animal first aid, animal handling and restraint, bandages and dressing, care of older animals, sanitation, and animal behavior and intelligence.
My personal animal experience primarily involves dogs of all sizes (from Rottweiler to Pekingese), with whom I have always had a natural affinity. As Cheryl and I have assisted our own animals to recover from various illnesses, diseases and surgeries I developed a greater depth of animal knowledge. Administering medications, both oral and injectible, has become almost second nature.
I have always been an animal lover, but since meeting my wife I have been introduced to species I previously did not know existed (such as Big Daddy the Macaw, pictured at right).
While spending time with her, I have attended many dog shows and training classes. I have even trained my own dog, Samantha, in Obedience and together we earned her Canine Good Citizen.
In memory of Cheryl's show dog Holly, who was a rescue herself, from 2003-2007 we volunteered as a foster home for Houston Area Doberman Rescue (HADR). Each doberman they rescue is one less dog that is hungry, neglected, abused or abandoned. When our fosters found their 'forever home,' it was sometimes difficult to let go, but it is truly a wonderful feeling to know you have given a good dog a second chance.
I apply my technology background to run the day to day Information Technology operations of Animal Companions, but my real pleasure is in taking care of the animals.
Lynn is a Level 2 Certified Veterinary Technicion with 4 years clinical experience, comfortable with administering medicines such as shots or fluids. She has been a volunteer with HOPE since 2003 and a pet sitter since 2005. She has taken care of dogs, cats, hamsters, ferrets, rabbits, birds, gunea pigs, gerbils, and fish. She is a proud mom to her siamese mix kitties, Luna and Sassy.
I come from a long line of animal lovers. When I was a child, my mother rescued and cared for the neighborhood stray cats and kittens, so from my first memories I was playing with kittens in doll carriages. Throughout my life, I have hand raised and bottle fed several litters of kittens and (tearfully) found homes for them. There are currently five cats living with us, that are all rescues.
Although most of my experience has been in raising and caring for cats, I also have owned several dogs over the years. Penny, the dog we have now, is the adorable cutie in the picture. We adopted her from a local animal shelter.
In addition to cats and dogs, my husband Alfred and I have five children (now grown) - and since every one of them wanted a different pet, over the years we have cared for parakeets, cockatiels, gerbils, a guinea pig, an iguana, fish, rabbits, snakes, anoles, skinks, - even crickets and grasshoppers!
I have been petsitting for friends and neighbors for many years, and I really enjoy caring for their pets. I truly believe animals are a special gift sent to us from Heaven.
